Who you are dealing with

How long has Ottawa Renovation Specialists been working in Ottawa?

Since 1999. We are a family business, and the owners are on site rather than running the company from a distance. Our Google profile carries 25 reviews at a 5.0 rating, all from work in this city.

Which parts of Ottawa do you serve?

The greater Ottawa area. The neighbourhoods we work in most often have their own pages, including Nepean, Kanata, Orleans and downtown Ottawa. If you are within the city, we will come to you for the consultation.

Do you take on commercial work as well as houses?

Yes. Retail units, offices, multi unit residential and industrial space, including tenant fit outs and facade work. Most of our volume is residential, and commercial jobs run through our general contractor service.

How can I check that an Ottawa contractor is legitimate?

Ask for a WSIB clearance certificate and a certificate of liability insurance, and confirm the business name matches the one on the contract. Ask for addresses of recent local work, not just photos. We provide all of that before anything is signed.

What the work costs and how it is paid

Is the consultation really free, and what happens at it?

It is free with no obligation. We come to your home, walk the space, ask how you use it, and look at the structure and mechanical systems behind the finishes. You get an honest read on what is realistic before any money changes hands.

How soon after the visit do I get an estimate?

Three to five business days for most projects. Larger jobs involving drawings or engineering take longer, and we tell you which category yours falls into at the visit rather than leaving you waiting.

How do deposits and payments work on a renovation?

A deposit confirms the start date and covers initial material orders, then payments follow project milestones set out in the contract. Nothing is due for work that has not been done, and the final payment comes after the walk through.

Do you supply the materials or do I buy them?

Either way works. We supply most materials as part of the contract, with allowances stated for items you are choosing, like tile or fixtures. If you would rather source your own cabinets or flooring, we will install what you buy and price the labour accordingly.

Living with a renovation, and what happens afterwards

What does your one year workmanship warranty cover?

Anything that fails because of how we installed it. We come back and fix it at no charge. Product defects are covered by the manufacturer warranty, and we pass that documentation to you at the end of the job.

When is the best time of year to book a renovation in Ottawa?

Interior work runs all twelve months, and booking in autumn or winter usually gets an earlier start date than asking in spring. Roofing, masonry, decks and anything needing footings are scheduled from late spring to early autumn because of frost and curing temperatures.

Will there be someone on site I can talk to every day?

Yes. You get one point of contact for the whole project, and the owners stay involved from the first visit to the final walk through. You are not routed through a call centre or handed to a project manager who has never seen the house.

What happens at the end of the job?

We walk the finished work with you and write down anything that needs correcting. That deficiency list gets cleared before final invoicing, and the warranty period starts from completion.

Still have a question?

Call and ask. You will get one of the owners rather than a script, and the answer will be the same one we would give on site.
