Interior renovation in Ottawa is the work that carries on regardless of the weather, which is why our January and February schedules are full of it. Call (613) 261-4861 to get on the list.

We renovate interiors across the greater Ottawa area, from single rooms to full main floor reworks, without touching the exterior footprint.

Because there is no excavation or roof work involved, these projects avoid the seasonal constraints that govern additions and masonry. Booking in autumn usually gets a much earlier start than asking in spring.

What can change inside the footprint

More than most people expect. Walls can come out with proper support, doorways can move, ceilings can be opened up, and stair openings can sometimes be reworked.

The limits are structural and mechanical rather than architectural. Which walls carry load, where the plumbing stacks are, which direction the joists run, and whether the panel has capacity.

In split levels through Nepean and Gloucester the stair geometry is usually the binding constraint. In century homes downtown it is the stack location and the lack of insulation in exterior walls.

Winter interior work, done properly

Interior work in an Ottawa winter is comfortable for the crew and convenient for the schedule, with two caveats worth planning around.

First, joint compound needs heat to dry, so the space has to be heated before the finishing stage. Second, dry winter air means new wood and trim should acclimatize in the house before installation, or gaps appear in June.

Beyond that, everything runs normally. Demolition, framing, rough-ins, inspections, insulation, drywall, paint, then flooring and trim.

Dust, noise and living through it

Most clients stay in the house for interior work. That works when the site is managed: poly barriers with zip doors, sealed return air vents, protected walking routes and tools cleared each evening.

We also group the loudest stages into set hours where people are working from home, which is now most of our clients rather than a few.

What an interior renovation contract includes

  • Scope by room: demolition, framing, finishes and fixtures.
  • Structural review: which walls are being removed and how they are supported.
  • Mechanical scope: electrical and plumbing changes, by licensed trades.
  • Permits: where structural or mechanical work requires them.
  • Site management: dust barriers, protection and daily cleanup.
  • Sequence: the order of trades with inspection stages marked.

Where interior renovation sits in the bigger job

This work is part of our remodeler service, so it can run on its own or as one stage inside a larger project. When it is part of a bigger renovation we sequence it with the other trades rather than treating it as a standalone visit.

Clients booking this often pair it with whole house renovation or home additions. One contract covers whichever combination you need, with a single schedule and one point of contact.

Interior Renovation across the Ottawa area

Interior Renovation Ottawa FAQ

Is winter a bad time for interior renovation in Ottawa?

No, it is often the best time. Weather does not affect the work, availability is better, and start dates are usually sooner. The space just needs heat for the drywall finishing stage.

Do I need a permit for an interior renovation?

For finishes alone, usually not. For removing structural walls, new plumbing lines, panel changes or finishing a basement, yes. We confirm what applies and handle the application.

Can you open up my main floor without an addition?

Usually yes, and it often delivers most of what people want from an addition at a fraction of the cost. Removing one or two walls with a properly sized beam changes how the whole floor works.

How much disruption should I expect?

Real but manageable. Expect noise during demolition and framing, dust during drywall sanding, and a week or two where a room is unusable. We tell you which weeks are the difficult ones upfront.
